Dr Estelle Lazer, whose continuing research on the human skeletons and casts of the victims of the eruption is included in the HSC syllabus, can provide lectures to senior ancient history students and teachers.
She can also provide lectures on the new excavations and research in the region, including the use of cutting edge technology and its impact on interpretation, conservation, site management and tourism in sites like Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabia and Civita Giuliana.
Dr Lazer can also give lectures to students from years 7 to 10 on more general topics, like forensic archaeology, using non-Pompeian case studies, like European cemetery relocations in Australia and Egyptian and Peruvian mummies, which highlight the close bond between STEM and humanities subjects and may inspire students to enrol in history courses in their senior years.
