History Teachers Tour: Russia and Germany in the 20th Century July 2018
A professional development tour for teachers of History
Academy Travel is proud to announce its upcoming professional development tour for teachers of History. This study tour program is based on the current syllabus relevant to both HSC and VCE courses, covering content related to the Russian Revolution, WW1, WWII and the Cold War.
The cost of the tour will be fully tax deductible for most Australian history teachers (please speak to your tax agent for professional advice). Some teachers may be able to have all or part of the tour fee subsidised by their school’s professional development program (letter of support available on request).
Academy Travel is endorsed to provide QTC Registered Professional Development for teachers accredited at Proficient Teacher. Completing this study tour program will contribute 45 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 2.1.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Summary itinerary and highlights
13 day program (land only), July 2018
Days 1-2: Moscow. Head underground to the Cold War Museum housed in a former bunker. See the sites of the city with a local guide and tour the Moscow Metro, the city’s most interesting museum.
Days 3-5: St Petersburg. Tour 1917 Revolutionary sites and explore the State Museum of Political History. Investigate WWII history with a visit to the Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad.
Days 6-7: Munich. Fly to Munich. Visit Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest in nearby Berchtesgarten, See Third Reich sites. Guided visit of Dachau concentration camp memorial.
Days 8-9: Nuremberg. Walking tour of the Nazi Rally Grounds. Self guided visit of the Documentation Centre. Investigate the Nuremberg Trials at Courtroom 600. Tour the underground art bunkers used in WWII.
Days 10-13: Berlin. See the sites associated with the Third Reich and the Cold War. Experience life under communism at the DDR Museum. Enjoy a night at the cabaret.
