20th Century History and Revolutions: France, Germany, Russia
Based on the VCE Revolutions unit
A 17-day itinerary designed specifically for students of VCE History, based on the Revolutions unit. In Paris, students explore significant sites pertaining to the French Revolution and world-class museums and iconic sites of the ‘City of Lights’. In Berlin, the focus is on the experience of WWII and Cold War sites including the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and sections of the Berlin Wall. Continue to St Petersburg to visit key Revolution sites from Bloody Sunday to October Uprising of 1917. The itinerary ends in Moscow and includes sites such as Red Square and the Kremlin.
Summary itinerary and highlights
Day 1: Depart Australia
Days 2-5: Paris. Guided visit to the Louvre, Revolution walking tour from the Royal Palace to Place de la Concorde, scenic cruise along the Seine, guided visit to the Palace of Versailles and Tennis Court Museum, Les Invalides Army Museum and Napoleon’s Tomb.
Days 6-8: Berlin. Fly to Berlin. Panoramic city tour, Third Reich and Cold War walking tour, guided visit to Topography of Terros, DDR Museum, Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.
Days 9-12: St Petersburg. Fly to St Petersburg. Guided walking tour of the city, State Hermitage Museum and winter palace, St Peter and Paul Fortress, Museum of Political History, Smolny Cathedral and Institute.
Days 13-15: Moscow. Train to Moscow. Guided coach and walking tour including Red Square and the Kremlin, State Historical Museum, Novodevichy convent and cemetery, tour of Moscow metro.
Day 15: Depart Moscow
